Working with Larry really made a turn-around in the direction my son was going in school. He looked at things from both sides. He listened to, and heard, what my son's difficulties and problems were, and why. Then applied what he knew of the 'system' and made it work for us. After many frustrating meetings and a great deal of miscommunication with the school district, a counselor gave me Larry Davis’ phone number… after talking to Larry and mentioning his name to the school district, much of the confusion was cleared up. I would say that having Larry as an advocate helped us navigate through the special education maze. The school district stopped ignoring our attempts to advocate for our daughter when Larry stepped in. My daughter was able to get services that she badly needed. Larry comes to the table with the child's needs in mind, a firm voice of reason. The most important points to highlight about Larry is that he is prompt and available when we needed him most. He really cares about helping the children getting their needs met. Again, thank you for your time! ~ Kerry Horton Larry knows the industry, inside and out, and was able to articulately answer our questions so we could understand why we weren't being told what our daughter's learning issues were and what the school could/should be doing to help her succeed in her learning process. Larry was compassionate with our daughter and boosted her self-confidence and provided much needed moral support to us as parents. The average parent can't possibly know the intricacies of the game that needs to be played in order to have their special needs child receive the appropriate attention by the school staff and school district. Many of the issues encountered are political in nature and the average parent has no possible way of knowing that in advance nor of understanding how complex it can be to work the system.
In a meeting setting, Larry has the ability to spot problem areas during conversations, recognize the potential ramifications, formulate a plan and articulate that plan with delivery of a firm expectation that the plan will be implemented. Larry has vast knowledge and experience within the school system which may, in and of itself, be sufficiently intimidating to school staffers to get their attention and respect. I felt our daughter's needs were taken more seriously once Larry was sitting in on the meetings and acting as an overseer. ~Linda Fogarty
