Adoption and Foster Care Educational Support: "Conscious Parenting"

Currently, I work with agencies and individuals who have made the conscious decision to create or enrich their family through adoption or foster care placement; I call this "parenting by choice".

One of the common themes found along this path is how often kids experience challenges in school when they have the adoption or foster care experience.  Whether related to attachment issues, psychological-emotional self regulation challenges, or processing disorders impacting learning, both parents and kids need educational support after placement.  And that's what we are able to do together!

I have sat across the table with parents who have met the challenges of a confusing bureaucracy in the initial placement of their children.  Each time I am impressed by their grace and personal story in support of bringing  children into their homes.  At the same time, I often hear how frustrating the education system feels in contrast to the placement process.  One parent stated it eloquently, "My child faced the horrors of an Eastern European orphanage and her self-resiliency is stronger as a result.  We struggled for months with government guidelines and restrictions in bringing her home; and we are so grateful we followed through for she is truly a gift.  But the experience with the school, we are so frustrated.  We don't feel prepared to deal with it.  We need your help!".

If this resonates for you, you are not alone. Give us a call!
